The best plastic-free coffee gear for your kitchen depends on how you brew and exactly which materials you want to avoid. A ceramic dripper is easy to inspect. An automatic machine has a reservoir, tubing, valves, seals and other parts you may never see.

This 2026 guide is an editorial shortlist based on manufacturers’ published material information, not a hands-on ranking or laboratory test of every product. We focus on what contacts water and coffee, identify silicone where disclosed, and flag products that should not be described as completely plastic-free.

What plastic-free means in this guide

Our site’s plastic-free category focuses on keeping conventional petroleum-based plastics out of the brew path. It can include disclosed silicone seals or tubing. Silicone is a polymer, so this category is not a promise of a polymer-free appliance. We distinguish exterior handles and housings from surfaces that contact water, coffee or condensation.

If your goal also excludes silicone, check the exact model and each contact part. A “BPA-free” description is not evidence that a product is plastic-free, and a materials list alone does not establish a health benefit or guarantee a particle-free drink.

For manual pour-over: Hario V60 Ceramic

Hario identifies the dripper in its V60 Ceramic 02 as porcelain. Paired with the correctly sized paper filter and a suitable mug or server, it is a straightforward way to make the coffee-contact surfaces visible.

Choose the ceramic version specifically. Other V60 versions and the Switch use different materials or mechanisms. Your kettle remains a separate part of the water path. View the Hario V60 Ceramic.

For a reusable metal filter: Frieling French Press

Frieling describes its French press as all stainless steel, including the plunger, without plastic. This makes it a useful option for someone who wants an immersion brewer with a reusable metal filter.

Expect a different cup texture from paper-filtered pour-over. A French press is not an espresso machine. Check the capacity and replacement filter availability for your chosen model. View the Frieling French Press.

For automatic drip: compare the full water path

Simply Good Coffee’s Plastic-Free Brewer lists glass and stainless steel contact components and discloses silicone seals. Read our Simply Good Coffee review alongside the current manufacturer information.

Caraway also markets a 10-cup drip brewer with glass and stainless steel contact parts and says no plastic touches the water or coffee. Our Caraway coffee maker article explains the claim and provides seven questions to ask about the full brew path. We have not independently tested that machine.

For either machine, ask about tubing, valves, seals, sensors, the basket and the carafe lid. Confirm the exact model and material list before deciding it meets your own standard.

For cold brew: Ovalware, with a silicone seal disclosed

Ovalware lists a borosilicate glass body, an 18/8 stainless steel filter and cap, and a silicone seal for its cold brew maker. It is a glass-and-steel option if disclosed silicone fits your preferences.

It is not a silicone-free setup. Check the seal and other parts on the exact size you buy. View the Ovalware cold brew maker.

Kettles: read beyond “stainless steel interior”

The kettle touches every batch of water in a manual brewing routine. Check its interior, lid underside, spout, water window and temperature probe seal, rather than judging it by its exterior finish.

Fellow’s EKG material disclosure lists a 304 stainless steel interior and a silicone ring around the temperature probe. It also identifies polypropylene and silicone in other components, including the lid assembly. Fellow states that these kettles are not fully plastic-free. Use that disclosure to decide whether an EKG meets your criteria; do not treat it as an unqualified plastic-free pick.

Two products that need more careful labels

• Moccamaster: The manufacturer confirms that plastics are used in components that contact water and coffee. Its BPA-free claims do not make the brewer plastic-free.
• Able Kone: The current product description includes a polymer support ring alongside the stainless steel filter. It should not be described as an entirely steel, plastic-free filter. Check the specific Kone model and brewer fit.

The same care applies to any brewer with glass, steel or wood on the outside. Those materials do not tell you what is inside its complete water path.

What about single-serve coffee?

PaperPods replace the rigid polypropylene pod cup with paper and plant-based materials. Roaster’s Reserve combines specialty coffee with individually nitrogen-sealed packaging to help protect freshness. Our pod coffee freshness article explains what the seal can and cannot do.

PaperPods work in most K-Cup-style brewers, but not Ninja or Hamilton Beach brewers. Changing the pod does not change your machine’s internal materials. Used PaperPods are commercially compostable only, where an appropriate facility accepts them.

We are also exploring a plastic-free single-serve coffee maker concept designed around PaperPods. Glass and stainless steel are the intended contact materials, with silicone potentially used in seals and tubing. There is no working prototype, price or launch date.

Choose the next change that fits your routine

For manual brewing, start with a clearly specified ceramic dripper or all-steel French press. For automatic drip, request the complete contact-material list. For a compatible single-serve brewer, compare the pod and the machine as separate choices.
